This was our first trip in my 5 months work break and due to the duration and plans for travel Anita was persuaded that camping would be part of the adventure. Something of a first and she is to be congratulated that after 35 years of marriage she agreed to spend more than one night under canvass. Although I didn’t think we would still be about for a repeat it has now been an annual event for the last 6 years!
We arrived as a gale blew in which stopped he ferry resulting in the Gig racers having to stay an extra night. Following which we were in spendid isolation. Still we did have the company of thrushes, blackbirds, swallows and ultimately Herring Gulls which plucked the swallows from thin air.
Great to visit the other islands. Tresco for the gardens and St Agnes (my personal favourite) simply because it is small and perfectly formed!
During a particularly unpleasant day (well it was early May) we were blessed with a Hen Harrier being trained and Anita got to fly her (see the video)
A good time but flying was perhaps not the best option as we got weathered in on our return and had to spend a night in St Just on the mainland. Still we did experience an unexpected superior stay in the Commercial Hotel there which from the outside is uninspiring. Inside however, not to be faulted.
