This was to be our new adventure, taking a Camping van along the coast through to Sydney via the Great Coastal Highway taking in the 12 Apostles coastline. A night in Adelaide was followed by the van pick up and head out for our first night on the road. Adelaide is a quiet city, relatively small and dissappointingly not on a navigable river to get a different view of the CBD. We did however have a pleasant overnight and then on to the road trip!
Jim and Lyn had warned us that we might need more than 7 days to do the trip so we arranged to take the van for an extra 2 days so that we were not rushing to get to our ultimate destination. Even then we were doing a lot of mileage each day and should we get down this way again we will probably take more time in a number of the places which to be fair we had no time to really explore. ( the wine country for one! Albeit we did manage to drink some of the product en-route. Simply to get a taste of the locality you understand!)
There are some quite stunning views along this route not just the 12 Apostles coastline. I confess if one started the route going East to West one may miss what we thought were the rather more impressive features along the coast and which were somewhat less overun by ‘tourists’! We of course are travellers!
We had a couple of nights in Melbourne and enjoyed some stunning food, and wine of course, before moving on into New South Wales towards our eventual goal, Wollongong, where Jim and Lyn were anxiously awaiting their turn to try to take the Woodford Wollongong Ashes (our boule tournament which trophy yours truly, A&W, are the holders!) Not wishing to make too much of it, the Ashes were retained; in some style one might add! (3-0, 3-0, 3-0, 3-0. I know a song that goes something like that.) Let nothing further be spoken until the next match!
